Toy Story Costume Tips & FAQs

Join Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of the gang for an adventure in Andy’s room and beyond with our “Toy Story” FAQ section. This beloved Pixar series has captured the hearts of audiences across generations with its heartwarming tales of friendship, loyalty, and the secret life of toys. Whether you’re planning to dress up as the cowboy sheriff Woody, the intrepid space ranger Buzz Lightyear, the resourceful Bo Peep, or any other toy from this iconic franchise, we’ll guide you through creating costumes that embody the essence of “Toy Story” for cosplay events, Halloween, or any themed gathering that calls for a dose of nostalgia and fun.

To cosplay as Woody, focus on his cowboy look: a yellow plaid shirt with red bandana, cow-print vest, blue jeans with a belt and a large buckle, and brown cowboy boots. Woody’s signature cowboy hat is a must-have accessory. Don’t forget to add a sheriff badge to complete the ensemble. For added authenticity, consider carrying a toy lasso. Embodying Woody’s leadership qualities, his optimistic spirit, and his loyalty to his friends will bring depth to your portrayal.

For a Buzz Lightyear costume, wear a white jumpsuit with green and purple accents to mimic his space ranger suit. Key details include the “Space Ranger” insignia, a control panel printed or attached to the chest, and a purple hood. Buzz’s costume is also known for its white gloves and green jetpack with “wings” that can be made from lightweight materials. Adopting Buzz’s brave and somewhat naive demeanor, along with his catchphrase “To infinity and beyond!” will enhance your portrayal.

To cosplay as Bo Peep from “Toy Story 4,” focus on her updated look: a blue jumpsuit with a pink belt, a detachable white cape that doubles as a skirt, and her iconic shepherd’s crook. Bo’s costume is completed with a large blue bow in her hair. Emphasizing her resourcefulness, independence, and caring nature will capture the essence of Bo Peep’s character in the latest installment of the series.

For Jessie, wear a white and yellow western-style shirt with red cowgirl pants, complete with cow-print chaps, a red hat, and red hair in braids. Adding a “Jessie” nameplate to the belt and a lasso as a prop will enhance the costume. To cosplay as Forky, wear an all-white outfit, and create Forky’s distinctive face and rainbow sticker on the foot using fabric paint or markers. A red pipe cleaner attached to the arms can mimic Forky’s arms, and carrying a disposable spork can add a fun touch. Embodying Jessie’s energetic and upbeat personality or Forky’s existential curiosity will make your costume more authentic.

Including memorable quotes from “Toy Story” can add character and authenticity to your costume or themed interactions. Here are a few iconic lines:

“To infinity and beyond!” – Buzz Lightyear

“There’s a snake in my boot!” – Woody

“I’m not a toy!” – Forky

“Yee-haw! Giddyup, partner! We gotta get this wagon train a-movin’!” – Jessie

“The thing that makes Woody special, is he’ll never give up on you… ever. He’ll be there for you, no matter what.” – Andy

Choose quotes that fit your character and the situation, practicing their delivery with the appropriate emotion and timing for a truly immersive experience.

About Toy Story

Toy Story became the first computer-animated feature film produced by Pixar and released by Walt Disney. The film follows the life of Woody, a jealous toy who realizes that his owner, Andy, has a new favorite toy—Buzz Lightyear. While falling out of windows, traveling to Pizza Planet, and getting “toy-napped” by Andy’s evil neighbor, Andy and Buzz eventually become best friends. Throughout the Toy Story franchise, new characters and toys join the fun, and Andy’s toy box! These new toys include Jessie, who struggles to trust people after being abandoned by her original owner.

Now with four films that make up the franchise, Woody, Jessie, and Buzz change owners to Bonnie once Andy leaves for college. They meet many new friends, including “lost toys” like Bo Peep and Duke Caboom, who live the life of freedom without an owner. Each toy, just as real people, go through their ups and downs. The toys need to be wanted by their owners, eventually realizing that their true purpose creates a new path for themselves.
