Gem outfits change, and fusion characters have their own designs. These groups keep the pictured clothing connected to the right guide.

Steven’s star shirt is the simplest clothing base. Garnet needs the square afro and visor, Amethyst adds pale hair and a chest gem, and Pearl uses a mint-and-yellow outfit with a forehead pearl. Peridot and Lapis bring green and blue to a larger group.

Connie’s hat, glasses and sword details give her a different role from the Gems. Greg’s tank top and cutoffs, Andy’s flight jacket and Buck’s lightning-bolt shirt offer recognizable clothing-based alternatives.

Stevonnie combines familiar Steven-and-Connie clothing, while Opal, Sardonyx, Sugilite and Smoky Quartz each have a separate design. Follow the fusion’s own guide rather than simply wearing half of each component character’s outfit.

Pink Diamond’s puffed sleeves and short court outfit differ from Blue Diamond’s long gown and cloak. Yellow Diamond uses angular yellow details; the Pearl attendants and Jasper offer other Homeworld shapes and colors.

Debut Pearl and Young Pearl have different clothes from the main Pearl guide. Steven’s Tiger Millionaire and Amethyst’s Purple Puma make a wrestling pair, while Spinel has a separate movie costume with rose-red pigtails.
Build the core Crystal Gems team, a Ruby-and-Sapphire pair or a group of human friends. Give each person a distinct color and character detail.
Bring Steven’s red star shirt together with Garnet’s magenta suit, Amethyst’s black layers and Pearl’s mint-and-yellow outfit. Each costume has its own hair and gem detail.
Pair Ruby’s burgundy clothes and headband with Sapphire’s blue skirt and pale hair. Their contrasting silhouettes help the costumes read as two distinct characters.
Use Steven’s shirt and jeans beside Connie’s hat, glasses and mint outfit details. A lightweight pink sword prop can connect the pair to their adventures.
Follow the wrestling-persona guides together: Steven’s shirt, suspenders and tiger details beside Amethyst’s purple singlet and long hair.
A star shirt can get Steven started, while Gem costumes need more attention to hair, color and the placement of their stones. Use the pictured outfit as your plan for the clothing and added details.
Start with a red T-shirt and cut a large yellow five-point star from fabric. Place it at the center of the chest and attach it with stitching or fabric-safe adhesive. Put cardboard inside the shirt while gluing so the front and back do not stick together. Finish with blue jeans and red flip-flops.
Use a lightweight acrylic cabochon or foam shape with a shiny finish. Steven’s gem sits at his belly, Pearl’s is on her forehead and Amethyst’s sits on her chest; Garnet has palm gems. Attach a clothing-mounted gem securely, or use an adhesive intended for skin when the design exposes it.
Garnet needs a square afro shape above her visor, Pearl has a pointed peach hairstyle and Amethyst uses long pale hair. Arrange and secure the wig first, then add the gem, glasses or headband. Keep Sapphire’s one-eye effect in the front section of the wig without covering both eyes.
Use Garnet’s magenta body layer with dark leggings and arm warmers, or Pearl’s mint top with yellow shorts and a blue waist ribbon. For Ruby and Sapphire, keep the burgundy and flowing blue outfits separate. Cut stars or ribbons from light fabric so they move with the clothes instead of making them rigid.
This real contest entry shows how a handmade headpiece and altered clothing bring Centipeetle to life.

A handmade papier-mâché headpiece, green-striped clothing and altered top create Centipeetle’s eye, mouth and white hair. The maker added a bug-like tail and painted glue drips.
View SubmissionChoose a character and look first, then decide which clothes you can reuse and which Gem details you want to make.
Steven can start with a red T-shirt with a large yellow star, blue jeans and red flip-flops. Add the pink belly gem and dark curly hair if you want more character details.
Steven, Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl make a connected four-person group. Their different clothing colors, hairstyles and gem placements give everyone a distinct outfit.
Use Ruby’s burgundy outfit and headband beside Sapphire’s flowing blue skirt and pale hair. They are a story-connected pair; a third person dressed as Garnet adds their fusion to the group.
The main Pearl guide uses a mint top, yellow shorts and blue waist ribbon. Debut Pearl and Young Pearl have separate clothes. Blue Pearl, Yellow Pearl and Pink Pearl are separate characters, so use their own labeled guides.
You can suggest the character with colored clothes, the wig and a visible gem. If you add makeup, use face or body products intended for skin. Acrylic craft paint belongs on props and clothing details, not your skin.
Her square afro, broad white visor, magenta-and-dark clothing and palm gems carry the look. The guide uses several clothing pieces, rather than a single complete costume set.
Yes. Cut a lightweight foam shape or use a flat-back acrylic jewel. Choose its color and position from the character’s guide, then attach it to the garment or use a skin-safe method where appropriate.
Add Connie or Greg for human clothing options, Peridot and Lapis for more Gem colors, or use the Diamond guides for a Homeworld group. Fusion characters have separate outfits and their own guides.
You can keep Steven simple or spend more time on a Gem’s wig and clothing. Keep the defining star, visor, gem or color combination visible, and use the individual guide for its shopping and assembly details.

Steven Universe follows a half-human, half-Gem boy learning to use his powers alongside Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl. Their adventures combine magical threats with everyday life in Beach City. Steven’s father and human friends give the world a familiar side, while the Gems bring unusual histories and abilities into his life.
The series began in 2013 and builds its world through friendships, discoveries and changes in the characters. Ruby and Sapphire’s connection to Garnet is one example of how a relationship becomes part of the show’s visual design. Fusion characters have distinct appearances, giving costume fans additional choices beyond the individual Gems.
The costumes range from Steven’s ordinary shirt and jeans to the Diamonds’ elaborate outfits. Garnet’s square hair and visor, Amethyst’s pale hair, Pearl’s pointed hairstyle and Sapphire’s long blue skirt all give you a clear detail to build around. Stars and gems can be made separately and added to clothes, rather than requiring every piece to be custom sewn.
That range makes the theme flexible for a group. Someone who wants a simple clothing outfit can choose Steven or Greg, while another person can spend more time on a Gem wig, gown or homemade headpiece. Start with the character’s pictured clothes, keep alternate looks separate, and choose the details that will remain visible when everyone stands together.
