Pablo Escobar is the most notorious drug cartel leader in the world. He was first exposed to cocaine in the 1970s when his cousin introduced him to Mateo Moreno, aka “Cockroach.” Pablo Escobar went on to build a cocaine business that eventually controlled 80% of the world’s cocaine market. Arrested for his crimes, Escobar is later set free and decides to explore a career in politics. However, everything changes when the U.S. introduces a new law targeting drug cartels that have smuggled drugs through Miami. Escobar spends his life fleeing the DEA in fear of being extradited. Having built one of the biggest cartels in history, Pablo Escobar made billions of dollars.
Steve Murphy is a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent involved in searching and capturing Pablo Escobar. Portrayed by actor Boyd Holbrook, Steve began working for the DEA in Miami in the mid-1980s, where he remained for four years. He played an essential role in the killing of Pablo Escobar and is respected for helping bring down one of the most notorious drug cartel leaders in the world. Brave and hardcore, Steve had an incredibly dangerous job at the DEA, seeing some near-death experiences during his stint in Colombia. Narcos follows the life of notorious drug kingpin Pablo Escobar as he becomes a billionaire through the production and distribution of cocaine. The first season begins in Chile with Mateo Moreno, aka “Cockroach” as his drug cartel gets discovered by the Chilean Armed Forces, killing everyone except him, surprisingly. Eventually meeting Pablo Escobar, Cockroach begins to worry that Escobar’s cocaine business is going to affect his profits. Feeling threatened, Cockroach leaks Escobar’s smuggling routes to the drug agency agents, resulting in Pablo Escobar’s arrest.
From that point in the series, the crime and drama only heighten. From putting out orders for the death of Cockroach to his allies to evading the DEA, Narcos follows the drug-fueled lives of those involved in some of the most notorious cartels in the world. Eventually, Narcos showcases the events following the fall of Pablo Escobar and even introduces other drug cartels in Mexico in season four.
