“Here, take it. Take it, Georgie.” Those were the final words Georgie would ever hear. Even as Pennywise’s first victim, with his yellow raincoat and paper boat, Georgie is one of the most recognizable It characters. Pennywise uses his childlike innocence to lure him by saying he is a circus clown that got blown away by the storm. He then savagely kills poor Georgie by ripping off his arm with his jaws and pulling Georgie into the depths with him. It’s Bill’s inability to find closure with Georgie’s death that ultimately leads him and his friends to confront Pennywise and bring his reign of evil to an end.

It Costume Tips & FAQs

Dive into the chilling world of “IT,” where the shape-shifting entity known as Pennywise terrorizes the town of Derry, Maine, every 27 years. Whether you’re drawn to the horror and suspense of Stephen King’s creation or the bond between the members of the Losers’ Club, this FAQ section will guide you through creating costumes that capture the essence of “IT” for cosplay events, Halloween, or any themed gathering that calls for a touch of fear, bravery, and the power of friendship.

To cosplay as Pennywise, focus on his eerie clown appearance from the film adaptations. This includes a greyish-white costume with puffy sleeves and ruffled collar, decorated with orange pompoms down the front and red accents. Pennywise’s makeup is key, with white face paint, exaggerated red lips that extend up the cheeks, a red nose, and hauntingly intense eyes. The signature red balloon is a must-have accessory. Adding a wig with balding forehead and tufts of orange hair will complete the look. Embodying Pennywise’s menacing demeanor and unpredictable behavior will enhance your portrayal.

For a Bill Denbrough costume, wear 1980s or 1990s casual attire, reflective of the era of the “IT” story you’re representing. This can include jeans, a button-down shirt, and a vest or jacket. Bill’s stutter and his determination to find his brother and defeat IT are key aspects of his character. Carrying a paper boat labeled “SS Georgie” can signify his personal loss and the catalyst for the Losers’ Club’s battle against Pennywise.

To cosplay as Beverly Marsh, choose outfits that reflect her tough yet vulnerable personality, such as a floral dress paired with combat boots or denim and a simple tee for a tomboyish look, depending on the adaptation. Beverly’s red hair is one of her distinguishing features. Including props like a slingshot or earrings can reference key moments involving her character. Embodying Beverly’s bravery and complex relationship with her father and the Losers’ Club will bring depth to your representation.

A Richie Tozier costume requires his signature loud and quirky style, often featuring graphic tees, loud prints, and oversized glasses from the 80s or 90s. Richie’s comedic personality and penchant for voices and impressions are key to his character, so incorporating a microphone as a prop could nod to his aspirations. Adopting Richie’s humor, often used as a defense mechanism, along with his loyalty to his friends, will make for a convincing portrayal.

Including memorable quotes from “IT” can add character and authenticity to your costume or themed interactions. Here are a few iconic lines:

“You’ll float too.” – Pennywise

“If we stick together, all of us, we’ll win.” – Bill Denbrough

“I’m not afraid of you!” – Beverly Marsh

“Beep beep, Richie.” – Used by the Losers’ Club whenever Richie’s jokes go too far

“This is battery acid, you slime!” – Eddie Kaspbrak, confronting his fears

Choose quotes that fit your character and the situation, practicing their delivery with the appropriate intensity and emotion for a truly immersive experience.
