How to Make a Hip-Pea Costume
Hip-Pea is a visual pun: dress as a recognizable hippie, then place a green pea pod directly at the hip so the two ideas combine into “hip pea.” The pod’s three visible round peas make the joke readable without a label.
Use an adult rainbow tie-dye T-shirt, round purple-lens hippie sunglasses, and a peace-sign pendant to establish the hippie silhouette. Make a clearly measured six-inch green felt pod at one hip with exactly three one-inch green pom-pom peas; it is a handmade prop, never a full-body pea costume.

Build the Hip-Pea silhouette
From the Kit
Use the adult rainbow tie-dye T-shirt, round purple-lens hippie sunglasses, and peace-sign pendant for the hippie half. Make the six-inch pod from Green Felt Sheets with exactly three one-inch Green Craft Pom-Poms inside it. Scotch Removable Fabric Tape closes the felt edge only; it is not used to carry the pod.
From Home
Wear ordinary plain bottoms and comfortable sandals or other everyday shoes. Gather scissors, a needle and thread, and a fabric belt or sash from home; sew the pod’s hidden back edge to that belt or sash, while tape closes the felt edge only.
Measure the prop before wearing it
Cut and shape the green felt so the finished pod measures about six inches long. Set exactly three one-inch green pom-poms in the opening; the intentionally small, neat pod reads as a pea pod at the hip instead of a bulky body costume.
Use a sewn support
Sew the hidden back edge of the finished pod to a home fabric belt or sash with needle and thread. Use the removable tape only to close the felt seam around the pom-poms; test the belt support with a few normal steps before photographing.
Assemble the Six-Inch Hip-Pea Costume
Build the recognizable hippie base first, then make and sew the small felt pea pod at one hip. Each check keeps the tie-dye styling and three visible peas readable together.

Dress the hippie base
Put on the Neon Rainbow tie-dye T-shirt and ordinary bottoms, then add the Round Purple-Lens Hippie Sunglasses and Peace-Sign Pendant Necklace. Wear ordinary sandals or other comfortable everyday shoes from home.
Keep one outer hip clear so the pod will be visible. The tie-dye, round lenses, and pendant should read as hippie styling even before the pea prop is added.
Check: The tie-dye shirt, round glasses, and peace pendant make the hippie styling readable while one hip remains visible.

Make a six-inch felt pod
Cut two matching green felt ovals and shape them into a slim pod about six inches long. Leave the long front edge open enough to show exactly three peas and keep the outline small enough to sit at one hip.
Set exactly three one-inch green craft pom-poms in a row inside the opening. Their round shape must face outward so the prop reads as a pea pod rather than a generic green decoration.
Check: The finished felt pod is about six inches long and shows exactly three one-inch green pom-pom peas.

Close the felt edge
Use short strips of Scotch Removable Fabric Tape only along the hidden felt edge to close the pod around the three pom-poms. Do not use the tape to attach the pod to clothing or to carry its weight.
Press the felt edge flat and keep all tape hidden behind the green shape. The three round peas should stay exposed across the front opening.
Check: The tape closes only the hidden felt edge, while all three pom-pom peas remain visible from the front.

Sew the pod to the hip belt
With needle and thread from home, sew the hidden back edge of the six-inch pod to a fabric belt or sash. Put the belt on at one outer hip and keep the pod’s opening and three peas facing outward.
Take several normal steps and turn to the intended three-quarter photo angle. The sewn belt connection carries the prop; adjust the belt position if the pod shifts or the tie-dye shirt covers the peas.
Check: The sewn belt supports the pod through normal movement, and the six-inch pod with three peas sits visibly at one hip.
Quick Fixes
The pod looks too large or costume-like
Remake it at about six inches long and keep exactly three one-inch pom-pom peas in the opening. A small felt prop at one hip preserves the wordplay without becoming a full-body pea outfit.
The pod shifts while walking
Check the hand-sewn connection to the home fabric belt or sash. The removable fabric tape closes the felt seam only, so tighten or restitch the belt support rather than adding more tape to clothing.
The peas are hidden
Turn the felt opening outward and clear the pod-side arm and shirt hem. All three round green pom-poms should be visible at the front of the six-inch pod.
The outfit does not read as hippie
Keep the neon tie-dye T-shirt, round purple-lens glasses, and peace-sign pendant visible in the same frame as the hip pod.
Hip-Pea Cosplay Costumes
For a clear photo, use a three-quarter stance with the pod-side hip turned slightly toward the camera. Keep one arm away from the six-inch pod so its green outline and exactly three round peas remain visible.
For a Pinterest-friendly image, show the tie-dye shirt, round glasses, pendant, and hip-mounted pod together. The joke works when the hippie styling and the pea prop share one clear frame.

About Hip-Pea
The name combines “hippie” styling with “pea” placed at the hip, creating the spoken and visual pun “Hip-Pea.”
A six-inch green felt pod with exactly three round pom-pom peas supplies the literal pea half, while the tie-dye shirt, round tinted glasses, and peace pendant make the hippie cue immediate.
