I wanted to come up with a sea creature costume for my newborn daughter to match the theme of my other two kiddos. I came up with a crocheted seahorse costume so my little bundle would be as cozy as she was adorable on Halloween. I started the costume in the hospital the day after my little girl was born. (I was waiting to see what the gender was.) I couldn’t find a pattern so I decided to make it up as I went along. I am not very experienced with crochet techniques and I’ve never created my own pattern before, so this was a challenge. I tried things and unraveled several times before I was happy with the final product. I put my blood, sweat, and tears into this costume, but I spent less than $8 on materials. This was a key element in planning the costume because babies go through a ton of diapers, so being thrifty is as important as being creative right now. In the end, my little seahorse was so snugly in her costume that she slept through most of Halloween, but people raved about her outfit!
