About Wendy Peffercorn
Wendy Peffercorn is a minor character in the 1993 coming-of-age sports comedy film The Sandlot. Such is the legacy of the film; there would be few people who haven’t seen the film or at least heard of it. In the story about a group of local kids and their love for baseball, Marley Shelton plays Wendy Peffercorn, the blonde-haired lifeguard on duty at the local pool. She is adored by most of the boys, but most specifically it is Michael ‘Squints’ Palledorous who chases her affections more than the others.
In what is now an iconic piece of cinema history, Squints leaps into the deep end of the pool, even though he couldn’t swim. This forced Wendy to save him and perform CPR – at which point Squints reveals he isn’t really unconscious and tries to kiss Wendy. Despite being infuriated initially, Wendy grows to learn that Squints does like her, and she may even return the feelings.
