He is the narrator and main character, seen as a lonely young man without friends or family and a possibly unhealthy obsession with video games. He is particularly obsessed with a video game creator named Halliday, who created a virtual reality world called OASIS.
Wade, playing as his avatar Parzival embarks on the seemingly impossible quest of finding Halliday’s Easter egg in OASIS in order to inherit his fortune.

About Wade Watts
Wade Watts is the narrator and main character of the 2011 novel by Ernest Cline, Ready Player One. Fans would be aware the book was adapted into a blockbuster film of the same name in 2018, directed by screen legend Steven Spielberg. Wade is an orphan, having had a troubled upbringing which has left him with no family, no friends, and very few social skills in the real world. Through isolation and loneliness, he turned his hand to video games in order to escape the reality of his life.
He is particularly obsessed with the work of a video game creator named Halliday, who has created an entire virtual reality world called OASIS. Watts has an almost religious infatuation with Halliday’s work, and his life is heavily influenced by the man.
When Halliday passes away, he has recorded a message for all OASIS players, inviting them to find a special Easter egg programmed into the game, with the first person to find it being awarded Halliday’s fortune. Entering OASIS as his personally created avatar Parzival, Watts sets about on his epic quest to find the easter egg and Halliday’s fortune.
