Victor van Dort is the main character in the 2005 stop-motion animated film Corpse Bride, directed by Tim Burton and Mike Johnson. Popular actor Johnny Depp plays the voice of Victor Van Dort. He is portrayed as a shy, nervous, clumsy character who is the son of a newly wealthy family who is getting ready to marry his beautiful fiancé Victoria in an arranged marriage.
After making a mess of his wedding rehearsal, he practices the ceremony by putting a wedding ring onto a twig, but unfortunately, the twig is actually the finger of a corpse named Emily who now believes the pair are married. Victor must find a way to escape the clutches of the delusional Emily and get back to his wife-to-be Victoria. The film is animated in stop-motion style, and Victor is voiced by actor Johnny Depp, who captures the characters shy, nervous and bumbling nature perfectly. Victor is set to marry the beautiful Victoria Everglot in an arranged marriage, and he is excited at this prospect. So excited that he messes up his vows at the wedding rehearsal and ultimately practices by putting a wedding ring on a twig.
That twig was actually the finger of a corpse named Emily, who now believes the pair are married. She takes him off to the Land of The Dead and tries any means necessary to keep him there. When it becomes obvious Victor really wants to return to his fiancé Victoria, Emily agrees to let him go – however they face a whole new challenge when they discover Victoria is already arranged to be married to another man.
