Squints Costume Tips & FAQs

Dive into the nostalgia of summer baseball and childhood adventures with our Squints costume guide FAQ, inspired by the character from “The Sandlot.” Perfect for fans looking to capture Squints’ mischievous charm and signature look, this guide will help you recreate his outfit, complete with his classic eyewear and vintage baseball cap.

Squints' outfit in "The Sandlot" is a typical 1960s casual style. Essential components include a plain T-shirt (often white or light-colored), classic blue jeans, and a vintage-style baseball cap. Squints is most recognizable for his black-framed eyeglasses, which are a crucial element of his character. The glasses should have thick frames and can be worn with or without lenses. He also sports a pair of Converse or similar old-school canvas sneakers. Squints' hair is styled in a short, casual 1960s cut.

To replicate Squints' glasses, find a pair of black, thick-framed glasses similar to the classic wayfarer style. These can be found at costume stores or online. If you wear prescription glasses, you can look for frames that match this style.

Squints wears classic canvas sneakers, such as Converse All-Stars or a similar style, in a neutral color like white or black. For accessories, a key element is the vintage baseball cap, which can be a simple, unbranded cap from the era. Optionally, you might include a baseball and glove to enhance the theme.

To capture Squints' character, focus on his confident and slightly mischievous demeanor. He's known for his big personality and his memorable role in the pool scene with Wendy Peffercorn. Mimicking his cheeky smile and confident attitude will enhance the authenticity of your costume.

Including some of Squints' quotes can make your costume portrayal more engaging: "For-ev-er! For-ev-er! For-ev-er!," "I've been coming here every summer of my adult life, and every summer, there she is oiling and lotioning, lotioning and oiling... smiling. I can't take this no more!," "The kid is an L-7 weenie.," "You're killing me, Smalls!" and "This magic moment." These quotes capture Squints' playful nature, his memorable lines from the film, and his iconic interaction with Wendy Peffercorn.

About Squints

Grandson to former police chief Squidman Palledorous, the originator of the story of the Beast and the meanest man that ever lived, Squints grew up around the sandlot in the San Fernando Valley. He has a smart mouth and a long history of storytelling, especially about the dreaded Mr. Mertle, the owner of The Beast. He took quite a beating from his friends when the facts of his story were little more than fiction. Squints spends most of his time playing baseball with the friends he grew up with and newcomer Scotty Smalls.

His lady love is local lifeguard, Wendy Peffercorn. She wasn’t pleased with Squint’s impression of a drowning man which resulted in her having to perform mouth to mouth on him which got all his sandlot friends banned from the pool. Squints is just an all American kid raised in the 60’s. This timeless, well-loved character is an easy guy to cosplay, and the potential for fun is endless.
