About Run DMC
Run-D.M.C. found its origins in middle-class New York neighborhood of Hollis, Queens. The band was founded by Joseph Simmons, Darryl McDaniels, and Jason Mizell in 1981. Their contributions to the art of hip-hop led them to become one of the most influential bands of the 80s. In 2009, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Eminem, becoming just one of the three hip-hop bands.
But in their prime, their achievements were off the charts. They were first hip-hop group to be nominated for a Grammy, have a music video on MTV, have a golden album, and appear on the cover of Rolling Stone. Their best hits include singles like “It’s Like That”, “Adidas”, and “It’s Tricky.” The group influenced more than just the musical style of hip-hop, but the style of fashion too. Before Run-D.M.C., rappers would wear Rhinestones and leather outfits. After Run-D.M.C. starting wearing Adidas sneakers and hats, other artists soon followed suit.
