Mermaid Man makes an appearance on Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants show alongside his partner Barnacle Boy! The superhero Mermaid Man is somewhat of a mix between an older version of Aquaman and Batman. The crime fighting duo was once popular throughout Bikini Bottom with a television series, comic books, and trading cards. Now, he is an elderly man who is overweight and slightly deaf with poor eyesight. He doesn’t sound anything like a hero, but he has quite a record of fighting crime.
All of Mermaid Man’s superhuman powers come from his costume. They include controlling sea creatures, high-speed swimming, water balls, super strength, and the ability to survive underwater. His powers were much stronger in his youth and are fading now that he is getting older. In the past, Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy stood up against Man Ray, Atomic Flounder, Sinister Slug, and Dirty Bubble. He refuses to let his old age stop him from being the superhero of Soggy Bottom!
