About Joe Exotic
Joe Exotic’s personal life is as colorful as his conflict with Carole. He is openly gay, had an unofficial group marriage, ran for President of the U.S., ran for Governor of Oklahoma, and of course, his storied history as a cat collector and breeder. He was also an ordained minister in Oklahoma and can actually officiate weddings. He even donned a priest outfit in Netflix’s Tiger King.
Tiger King shows the conflict between big cat conservationists and the collectors of these amazing animals. It was in 2000 when he acquired his first two tigers, which were abandoned. He was also said to have shot the horses donated to him to use them as food for his big cats. Joe owns G.W. Zoo in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. Carole is the CEO of Big Cat Rescue based in Tampa, Florida. Joe accuses Carole of being a rival zookeeper and wants to eliminate Joe as a rival zookeeper for increased popularity.
