Jay Gatsby is synonymous with 1920s elegance. His look typically includes a tailored three-piece suit in cream or light pink, a crisp white dress shirt, and a tie or bow tie in a contrasting color. Complete the ensemble with a pocket square, polished Oxford shoes, and a period-appropriate hat, such as a fedora or a Panama hat.

Look for a suit that epitomizes 1920s fashion. This would mean a tailored, well-fitted three-piece suit, preferably in light colors like cream, pink, or pastel tones. Pay attention to details like the lapel style and the cut of the trousers, which should be high-waisted.

Accessories are key to Gatsby's luxurious look. Add a pocket square, a tie or bow tie, a vintage watch or cufflinks, and a pair of round, classic sunglasses. For added authenticity, carry a walking cane or a champagne glass to capture the essence of Gatsby's extravagant parties.

Jay Gatsby is depicted as having a neat, slicked-back hairstyle, typical of the 1920s. Use a good amount of pomade to achieve this look. He is clean-shaven, so make sure to have a smooth, well-groomed face.

Enhance your Gatsby portrayal with these classic quotes: "I hope she'll be a fool — that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.," "Can't repeat the past? Why of course you can!," "So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.," "You always look so cool." and "They're a rotten crowd... You're worth the whole damn bunch put together." These lines capture the complexity, charm, and melancholy of Jay Gatsby's character, adding depth to your costume portrayal.

About Jay Gatsby

Jay Gatsby is the main character in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1952 novel The Great Gatsby. When the book was adapted for the big screen by director Baz Luhrmann in 2013, there was no better movie star to play the role than Leonardo Dicaprio, a favorite of Luhrmann. Dicaprio does a terrific job of bringing to life this character who claims to be a war hero, Oxford graduate and wealthy businessman. Despite his wealth, Gatsby longs for the love of a woman he lost years before, Daisy.

He is known for holding big parties in the hope that Daisy will one day attend. Instead, he ends up meeting her cousin (who narrates the film), and drags him into a world of intrigue where mistresses and affairs are commonplace and true love seems out of reach. While he is successful in reconnecting with Daisy, he ends up dying at the hands of his other lover’s jilted husband.
