About Hannibal Lecter
Dr. Hannibal ‘The Cannibal’ Lecter was first introduced in Thomas Harris’ 1981 novel Red Dragon, which was also a feature film in years to come. The Red Dragon story didn’t come to cinemas until years later though, after the enormous success of Harris’ second book in the series and its film adaption The Silence of The Lambs.
Lecter was played by actor Anthony Hopkins and produced one of the finest performances as a movie villain. In The Silence of The Lambs and the subsequent Red Dragon and Hannibal films featuring Hopkins, the psychopathic doctor is portrayed as a sophisticated, well-spoken member of society. He has classical tastes and a strong dislike for bad manners. In Silence of the Lambs, Lector is behind bars and helps a young FBI agent track down a serial killer. Nothing, however, is ever as it seems with Lecter–his main goal is to use the opportunity to escape from custody. In all his film and TV appearances, Hannibal Lecter is intelligent, manipulative, and the true definition of a sociopath.
