Best Ghostface Costume Guide

Ghostface is one of horror’s most recognizable characters. Brought to life in the 1996 slasher film Scream and its subsequent sequels, Ghostface is now as iconic as other horror legends like Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger.

Ghostface isn’t just one particular character but is the disguise used by various killers in the Scream series of films. The disguise was created by the master of horror, Wes Craven, and was based loosely around the painting by Edvard Munch, The Scream, to which the character bears a resemblance.

If you want to scare your friends disguised as Ghostface, you will need Fake Blood, White Gloves, Reaper Outfit, Fake Knife, and spice it up with a Voice Changer.

Remember in the 80’s when horror was the king of the cinema? Something changed in the early 90’s which pushed the genre out of the limelight, but that was all fixed when Wes Craven released Scream in 1996, shoving the horror genre straight back into the spotlight once again.

While most of the other characters in the Scream films are all human without a discernible look, that’s no reason to despair when you’re with friends trying to come up with a combined costume idea for Halloween – just all dress as Ghostface. Since the movies often feature multiple killers and multiple characters dressed as Ghostface, that means you can have as many Ghostfaces as you like!

Along with horror icons like Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Jason Vorhees and Pinhead, Ghostface is one of the most popular costume choices of all time, so we know you’re going to love stepping out as Woodsboro’s well-known killer for your next costume event.

About Ghostface

Ghostface was first in seen in the now classic Scream movie, created by Wes Craven and released in 1996. It was a time when the classic slasher films made popular in the 1980’s had faded from mainstream cinema, and ultimately Scream, and its sequels spawned a new generation of horror films, horror fans, and breathed new life into the struggling genre.

Wes Craven conceived the Ghostface character, but it was a Halloween costume company who created the iconic mask based on the distorted face in Edvard Munch’s well-known painting, The Scream. It was brought to the attention of Craven, and the rest is history.

In the first Scream movie (1996), Ghostface is the disguise used by the killers to torment Woodsboro teenager Sidney Prescott. We won’t tell you who the killer is, in case you’ve never seen the film, but rather than being an actual person, Ghostface is the disguise used by many people throughout the four feature films and is also set to feature in the third series of the television adaption of the same name.
