About Esmeralda
Esmeralda, like most princesses in Disney films, isn’t one to judge and has a heart of gold. Unlike some princesses though, Esmeralda was one of the first to stand up for herself and fight for what she believes in. When everyone else was taunting Quasimodo, Esmeralda was there to protect him and to show him that she is a lot like him when it comes to being an outcast.
Esmeralda and the rest of the gypsies are seen as thieves and sometimes even called witches. All they really want is to remain free-spirited and live their lives without rules and expectations they shouldn’t have to follow. Esmeralda takes Quasimodo under her wing in The Hunchback of Notre Dame and protects him from cruelty. Quasimodo grows feelings for Esmeralda, but she falls in love with Phoebus instead. Esmeralda learns more about herself and her faith whenever she becomes closer to Quasimodo.
