About Death Eaters

Originally named Knights of Walpurgis, Tom Riddle started the organization while he was a student at Hogwarts. After gaining attention and power, he later renamed the group the Death Eaters and sought to incite fear while torturing and killing muggle-born wizards and wizards who betrayed them and abandoned their own magical lives. The Death Eaters didn’t show mercy in their quest to purify their community and had zero regard for the wizarding law. At the height of the First Wizarding War, Lord Voldemort, formerly Tom Riddle, heard a prophecy that Harry Potter would be the one to destroy him, so he sought to kill the infant.

After killing Harry’s parents, Voldemort’s living body was destroyed after trying to use the Killing Curse on Harry, but the boy’s life was spared. A resurgence of the Death Eaters came about during Harry’s fourth year at Hogwarts thus beginning another Wizarding War and the Dark Lord, Voldemort, finally returned.
