Carl Fredricksen is at the top of a very short lost of adorable little old men worthy of cosplay. With a fairly simple look to pull off, most of the pieces for his costume can be found in an average man’s closet or a local thrift shop. Its simply a white button up shirt with a black bow-tie and dark slacks and blazer. A pair of thick-rimmed fashion glasses will complete the main pieces of this outfit.
To account for his snowy white hair, you can opt for a wig or spray on hair color. We also suggest brushing some white into your eyebrows. Accessorizing with a tennis ball adorned, cane and perhaps a small bunch of colored balloons will leave little doubt about who you are cosplaying. For group endeavors, you might consider adding allies Russel and Kevin or even his late wife, Ellie. Check out our featured pics for more style ideas. Feel free to send in your own too!

Carl Fredricksen Costume Tips & FAQs
Embark on a whimsical adventure with our Carl Fredricksen costume guide FAQ. Transform into the lovable, grumpy protagonist from Pixar’s “Up” as we answer your questions about creating the perfect Carl ensemble.
Carl's signature outfit consists of a white dress shirt, a brown tweed or woolen jacket, a black bow tie, brown dress pants or slacks, and black dress shoes. Add a pair of square-framed glasses and a brown or gray wig to complete the look.
Look for a pair of large, square or rectangular glasses with thick black frames and clear lenses. You can find suitable glasses at costume stores, online retailers, or even thrift stores. Alternatively, create your own using black cardstock, foam, or plastic.
Carl has a distinct hairstyle with white or gray hair combed to the sides and a bald spot on top. You can purchase a wig designed to resemble Carl's hairstyle or modify a white or gray wig by cutting and styling it to match his look.
To include Carl's balloons, tie a bunch of helium-filled, multicolored balloons to a backpack, cane, or small replica of the house. For a lightweight house prop, use a small cardboard box painted and decorated to resemble Carl's house, or create a miniature version with foam or papier-mâché.
Consider wearing a brown or beige flat cap, carrying a walking cane or stick, or including a plush toy of Russell or Dug from the movie. These additional elements will help you capture Carl's adventurous spirit and add extra charm to your costume.
About Carl Fredricksen
Carl Fredricksen is a man with many sides. As a boy, he was quiet and shy. Before meeting his soulmate Ellie, he was lonely. They married years later as young adults and spent a lifetime living and dreaming of adventures to come. Just when it seemed that they had met their obligations could finally embark on their long-planned journey trip to Paradise Falls, Carl’s wife became sick and ultimately died.
The death of his Ellie made Carl bitter. He no longer dreamed. He brooded and grumped his way through life and around him the city grew. Carl’s bitterness did little to temper his attitude; he was aggressive and negative until the day he snapped. Wanting to withdraw from the world without Ellie, Carl decides to love out their final dream and bring their home to Paradise Falls. Making friends and enemies alone the way, Carl rediscovers his kindness and lends his strength and wisdom to his new friends. He also finds himself feeling closer to Ellie who always loved a good adventure.
