Borderlands Psycho Cosplay Costumes
Not much is known about what happened at Headstone Mine, except that a Vault key fragment was discovered. The fragment was given to a creature named Sledge who later organized a small group of bandits to guard the mine. Something happened while the mines were being guarded that caused the workers to become crazy. The bandits physically mutated and started losing their minds to Pandora.
There were two distinct ways in which the bodies mutated. Some became big and muscular shapes of humans while others mutated into smaller dwarf-sized forms. Their obsession with the Vault and the Vault key led to them creating a mask that had an upside-down V. Some psychos have changed forms even further which lead to the Burning Psychos and Badass Psychos. The Burning Psychos will set themselves on fire and rush at their enemies, while the Badass Psycho is a bigger, stronger form than the others.

A Psycho's outfit is a mix of rugged, post-apocalyptic gear. Key components include a mask with a creepy smile, an orange jumpsuit or pants with armor pieces attached, and bandages or wraps around the arms and legs. The outfit often appears dirty and battle-worn, reflecting the harsh environment of "Borderlands." Accessories like spiked shoulder pads, chains, and makeshift armor pieces add to the menacing look.
The mask is a crucial part of the Psycho's identity, typically featuring a wide, unsettling smile and vacant eyes. You can create the mask using materials like papier-mâché or foam, painted to mimic the eerie smile. For the facial features, consider using makeup to create a dirty, weathered look, consistent with the harsh living conditions in the "Borderlands" universe.
For the jumpsuit, look for an orange boiler suit or pants, which you can distress and dirty to achieve a worn-out look. Attach makeshift armor pieces made from foam, plastic, or metal scraps to resemble the improvised armor of a Psycho. Adding spikes, chains, and other harsh elements will enhance the rugged, dangerous vibe.
Psychos in "Borderlands" are known for their melee weapons, so including a prop such as a buzz axe (a combination of an axe and a buzz saw) will significantly enhance the authenticity of your costume. Remember to comply with local laws and regulations regarding prop weapons.
Psychos are known for their erratic and violent behavior, often shouting nonsensical or disturbing phrases. Including quotes like “I'm gonna gouge your eyes out!” or “Time to play!” can add to the character's unhinged persona. Adopting a wild, unpredictable demeanor and mimicking their chaotic combat style will make your portrayal more convincing.
About Borderlands Psycho
The backstory to Borderlands takes place on a planet called Pandora. Made by Eridians, Pandora has an unpredictable climate. Not everything on the planet has been discovered, and many species that remain unnamed.
There’s an old mine on the planet named Headstone Mine where the Psychos fate takes place. Some things were covered up, but a fragment for a Vault key remains. A group of bandits was instructed to look after the site for a man named Sledge. The bandits quickly fell prey to the effects of the mine. Many mutated and started losing their minds, becoming overly obsessed with the Vault. The Vault is said to contain alien technology, but no one is quite sure what it contains. The Psychos now protect their base with a maniacal and psychopathic way of thinking, longing to taste the blood of perceived enemies.
